The camellia was named the state flower of Alabama in 1959, despite the fact that is is not a native plant. The winter-blooming camellia became popular after being imported from Asia, and the Alabama legislature voted to replace the native goldenrod plant with the camellia as the state flower.
This camellia postcard is part of the Global Village Cards series of Alabama the Beautiful postcards.
