Vintage illustration wild animals mammals design featuring a dromedary camel in the desert. Louis Sargent illustrator, from "My First Book of Animals" by Lena Dalkeith, c. 1918. A camel is an even-toed ungulate within the genus Camelus. The dromedary camel (dromedarius) has a distinctive fatty deposit known as a "hump" on its back. The Dromedary Camel lives in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa and has been domesticated. Camels provide milk, meat, hair for textiles or goods such as felted pouches, and are working animals with tasks ranging from human transport to bearing loads.
