Palazzo Santa Sofia (Ca' d'Oro), Venice, Italy The palace of the Contarini family is one of the most beautiful buildings of the Canale Grande. It was designed and built by Giovanni and Bartolome Bon between 1428-30. The Bon family, father and son also worked at the construction of Palazzo Ducale (Doge's Palace). The Gothic style building is known as Ca' d'Oro (Golden Palace) because of its external polichrome decorations. Since 1922 the palace is owned by the state. Today is a gallery.
