Bright Red Rosehip in Winter Snow Postcard

Rosehips are the fruit of the rose, containing the seeds of the next generation. They are also called rose hip, rose haw and rose hep. They range in colour from orange to deep red. Typically rosehips stay on the rose bush branches long after the leaves have fallen - they may become food for browsing animals and hungry birds. Many people are familiar with rosehip tea, which has insane amounts of vitamin C, so if you feel a bout of scurvy coming on, have a cup ... ! These fabulous fruits are used in cooking, to make tea, jam or jelly, syrup, soup, bread, pies and wine. This single rosehip clings to the branch, partially covered with snow after a fresh snowfall. The cool blues of the snow compliment the bright red of the rosehip which is almost at the centre of the composition, with withered foliage gracefully curving.
