Bright Red Desert Wildflowers Hummingbird Bush Card

Printed on this greeting card is a close-up photo of the red flowers of the Chuparosa (Justicia californica) Shrub, also called the Beloperone or Hummingbird Bush, the latter because it is a favourite of Hummingbirds. It is a native to the low deserts of the Southwestern United States, especially the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. It blooms heavily in the spring and then sporadically throughout the year when the conditions are right. You will find it growing predominantly along wash banks and bajadas (rocky slopes). This particular image was taken along the Palo Verde Trail, which starts in the parking lot of Rattlesnake Cove at the dock on Bartlett Lake. This is a moderate trail of 3.8 miles one way and provides scenic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Very pretty in the spring when the wildflowers are in bloom. I took this photo in early February of 2019, and the wildflowers were starting early due to higher than average rainfall in the fall and winter.
