Bridge across Tejo River Postcard
Bridge across Tejo River The original name of the structure was the Salazar Bridge when it was built in 1966 after the dictator. After the Carnation Revolution on April 25, 1974, the bridge was renamed to commemorate the bloodless overthrow of the dictator. You might recognize this bridge as similar to the Golden Gate in San Francisco because it was designed by the same person. It's really creepy just how similar they look, although the 25 Abril is narrower, admitting fewer lanes of traffic.
