On December 05, 2024, this painting sold at auction for some $11 MILLION US ... with fees it was some $12.75 MILLION US. But, Florentine Italian Renaissance paintings of Mary mother of Jesus usually used very expensive Lapis Lazuli natural Aquamarine Blue but in this painting Mary's outer robe was left unfinished in black undercoat ... strangely this information was not mentioned ... but another similar painting by Botticelli with similar date c, 1470 and with identical baby Jesus ... of Madonna and Child With Six Saints ... was finished with thin glazes of Mary's outer robes in Lapis Lazuli natural Aquamarine which I tried to capture the look here and I think that I did a good job. I increased contrast because the finished painting was heightened with Titanium White... While the natural blue rock of course has various shades of deep blue from dark blue to medium blue, white brought the contrast up. I wanted to see what this painting would look like with the more finished look. Then, later, I made the background black to see how this would look and got to here. With apologies to Botticelli. I think that I did well in my efforts. I know it is not perfect ... but I think the look is attractive for the colour if nothing else. With my computer colorization to fix the unfinished black undercoated Robe of Mary to the finished look of Lapis Lazuli natural Ultramarine Blue.
