Recently (12-5-2024) this stunningly beautiful Botticelli auctioned for 8.6 million pounds (about 11 million dollars US) plus auction fees making the total about 10 million pounds which is about 12.75 million dollars US, triple the estimate. There were 9 bidders. The size of the painting was about 32 3/4 inches by 17 7/8 inches. The colours are somewhat digitally enhanced (a bit more colour). A damaged lower right corner of the frame has been digitally restored. I made Mary's robe a bit bluer which was nearly black in the some 554 year old painting. I like this result. I hope you will love this. This certainly is a beautiful Botticelli Madonna and Child Enthroned devotional image! Mark Edward Westerfield 2024 Now 2025 ... the original painting is now more like 555 years old. So it is public domain by age. Botticelli apparently left this painting unfinished but this fact was not given at auction. Nonetheless Mary's outer robe normally finished with thin transparent glazes of Lapis Lazuli natural Aquamarine Blue,which was as expensive as pure gold by weight, was obviously never applied. So I took it upon myself to turn her black robe dark blue and was pleased by the result until I saw another similar Botticelli Madonna and Child Enthroned also of same date c. 1470 with exactly identical baby Jesus (used same cartoon!) but with 6 Saints ... had a brighter blue that had Titanium White used to create greater contrast ... So then, I had to re-colorize my version to look more like that version. I love how it came out and hope you love it, too. I think that I managed to give this painting its more intended finished look. I have looked at this so much and still love it. I hope you will, too. Mark Edward Westerfield 05-23-25.
