Boeing 314 Clipper 16"x28" Poster
The Boeing 314 Clipper first flew in 1938 and began trans Pacific air service with Pan American World Airways to Honolulu and the Far East. The 314 had a range of more than 3,000 miles typically flown at a speed of 155 miles per hour making the San Francisco to Honolulu leg 19 hours long. The service was abruptly stopped with the onset of World War II. By the time the war ended land based aircraft had taken over long-range oceanic flights and the short-lived era of luxury flying boat service was over.
