The blue flag (Iris versicolor) is also known as harlequin blueflag, larger blue flag, northern blue flag, and poison flag - lovely to look at, but do not eat this plant! Overseas, the flower is known in Britain and Ireland as purple iris. The iris is the provincial flower of Quebec, Canada, and also the official flower of Tennessee, USA. As a wildflower this plant can be found growing near water, such a marsh or riverbank.
