The Government Tartan was worn by the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment of Foot, later the Black Watch, since 1739 and by the 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment of Foot, later the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders), since 1794. As worn by the latter, it was known as the Sutherland tartan. It has subsequently been worn by several other regiments. Info from Wikipedia.
