Black & White Pattern Patchwork 06 Postcard

"Patterns Run Amok, 6" is a part of a series of black and white whimsical designs featuring an outline drawn in black with a Wacom digital tablet. The outline's open sections are filled in with patterns. Circles, rings, squares, waves, zig zags, flowers and several retro pattern shapes are interspersed over the surface in an unpredictable array. When I'm not creating digital art, sometimes I use ink and paper for Zentangle drawings. Though this design is definitely not Zentangle, it may be considered a distant cousin of "Zentangle Inspired Art" because, like that art form, the work is achieved by drawing an outline ("string") and filling in the open spaces with repeating patterns. This digital version isn't as loose and organic as hand-drawing patterns, but I still find it fun to enjoy the repeating patterns bumped up against each other in unexpected ways. What great fun I had creating it, and I hope you'll enjoy it as well!
