There are several species of bees on Unalaska Island. This bee is collecting pollen from an annual species of fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium L.) No one is sure where the bees go when winter comes. No one has ever found a hive. But the different species all appear in early summer to begin their job of collecting pollen from the flowers of the island.
