Bartle Hall Pylons, Kansas City, Missouri Postcard
"Bartle Hall Pylons, Kansas City, Missouri" by Catherine Sherman.
The four Bartle Hall Pylons are concrete columns that support the steel cables suspending the Bartle Hall Convention Centre above Truman Road and Interstate 670 in Kansas City, Missouri. A sculpture tops each of the approximately 335-foot pylons, which are now familiar features in the city's skyline.
The aluminum and steel sculptures, called "Sky Stations," were designed by R.M. Fischer in 1994. They were inspired by the 1930s Art Deco chandelier and decorative designs throughout Municipal Auditorium, which is next to Bartle Hall.
The sculptures, nicknamed the "hair curlers," were placed by helicopter.
