Have you ever seen a little boy have his hair cut for the first time? The trepidation, the uncertainty of what is going to happen. The sweet far-off questioning look as the scissors snip away. The utter surprise when he sees his hair fall to the ground or just slide down the plastic poncho that completely hides his body from view. He locks eyes with his Dad and the small half-smile emerges and quivers on his lips. A half-smile because it's not over but it doesn't hurt. Much better than a doctor visit, he thinks. And, when it is finished, he takes hold of his Dad's hand and walks to the cash register to receive a lollipop 'reward'.
