Bald Eagles Welcoming the Starward Home Postcard
The Starward is a trawler which fishes with nets in the Bering Sea. It is shown here coming through Illiuliuk Bay, headed for the port of Dutch Harbour, Alaska. Bald eagles gather around the ship, circling to find a good place to perch so that they can ride the ship into port. The eagles will wait for an opportunity to pick fish from the vessel's nets, or to steal fish from the hold while the boat is unloading its catch at one of the canneries.
