Baby Orangutan Photo (Donald) Postcard

Baby orangutans are a delight to observe and photograph. Their sweet faces are a must for any wildlife and nature photography collection. Donald is one of the rescued babies at OFI's Care Centre on the island of Borneo. This famous Care Centre is home to 350 orphans and rescued orangutans, and it was featured in the IMAX movie "Born To Be Wild." Orangutan Foundation International is a registered charity whose founder began her work in the 1970's when she and Jane Goodall and the late Dian Fossey were chosen by Dr. Louis Leakey to study these endangered great apes. Orangutans are intelligent, quiet, and very gentle. Their diet consists of rainforest vegetation and fruit. They are the only great apes surviving in the wild outside of the continent of Africa. Your purchase of this postcard helps support OFI's conservation work. To learn more, please check out our home website: www.orangutan.org People sometimes mistakenly refer to orangutans as monkeys, but orangutans are great apes. Orangutans do not have tails - but they do have fingerprints just like humans. All monkeys, great apes, and - yes- humans- are considered to be primates. But apes and humans are not monkeys. The derogatory label of "stinky monkey" definitely does not apply to the red haired orangutans. Because of their natural diet as well as their cedar-scented red hair, they smell amazingly clean and nice. of course, any creature can smell bad if confined to cages or dirty zoo conditions.
