The world’s largest cat, the Amur (formerly known as Siberian) tiger, is one of five subspecies of tigers still in existence today. All five subspecies are threatened with extinction. Three other subspecies have become extinct since 2000. Poachers, habitat destruction, and loss of prey are the major factors leading to the departure of these majestic animals. There are only about 400 Amur tigers living in the wild today.
