Audubon's Cuvier's Kinglet Bird on Pink Calico Acrylic Tumbler

Despite Audubon’s remarkable ability to accurately document over 400 bird species, Cuvier’s Kinglet has never been rediscovered since Audubon (supposedly) collected a specimen in Pennsylvania in 1812, naming it after the famed French zoologist Georges Cuvier. Audubon described the bird as having a dark forehead with striped markings similar to the Golden-crowned Kinglet, but with a striking red crown. Its resemblance to both the Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets has left ornithologists debating whether it was a unique species, a hybrid, or perhaps a bird that has since gone extinct.
