The Bica Ascender is a funicular located on Bica de Duarte Belo Street in Bica, Lisbon. It establishes the link between the Largo do Calhariz and the Street of São Paulo, confronting one of the most steep slopes of the city. The concept of the Bica Elevator was developed by the Portuguese engineer Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard and the opening took place on June 28, 1892.
