A Dozen Delightful Dahlia Discoveries!
Did you know that the Dahlia pinnata, that vibrant star of our gardens, holds more secrets and wonders than a hidden grotto? Let me share a few fascinating snippets from its storied life:
A Star from the Aztec Sun: Dahlias are native to Mexico and Central America, where they were cultivated by the Aztecs long before Europeans ever laid eyes on them!
More Than Just Pretty Petals: The Aztecs used dahlias not only for their beauty but also for medicinal purposes and even as a food source – particularly the tubers!
A Flower Fit for a King (and a Botanist!): The dahlia was named by Spanish botanist Antonio José Cavanilles after Swedish botanist Anders Dahl.
The Great European Debut: Dahlias first arrived in Europe in the late 18th century, quickly captivating gardeners and becoming a sensation.
A Rainbow of Hues: Dahlia pinnata is renowned for its incredible diversity of colours, from fiery reds and oranges to soft pinks, pure whites, and even bi-colours. There’s a dahlia for every palette!
Petals in a Thousand Forms: While our Art Nouveau design showcases a more classic form, Dahlia pinnata has given rise to countless cultivated varieties, boasting an astonishing array of petal shapes – from decorative and pompon to cactus and anemone-flowered!
The "Queen of the Autumn Garden": Dahlias truly come into their own in late summer and autumn, often providing a spectacular burst of colour when many other flowers are fading.
Not Just for Show, But for Science Too! The dahlia's complex genetic makeup has made it a fascinating subject for horticulturists and plant breeders for centuries.
A Sweet Surprise: The tubers of some dahlia varieties are said to have a sweet, slightly spicy taste, reminiscent of a cross between potato and radish. (Though perhaps best left to the experts for consumption!)
A Symbol of Elegance and Dignity: Beyond its beauty, the dahlia often symbolizes elegance, dignity, and enduring grace – perfectly fitting for a timeless Art Nouveau design.
Pollinator Paradise: Despite their often elaborate appearance, many dahlia varieties, particularly the single-flowered ones, are excellent sources of nectar and pollen for bees and other beneficial insects.
The "Unveiling" of Beauty: The genus name Dahlia actually refers to its layered, unfolding petals, much like a beautiful secret being revealed.
So, indulge your passion for nature and art with this truly unique Art Nouveau Dahlia Dream Notebook. It’s more than just stationery; it’s a piece of botanical art, waiting for your own stories to bloom within its pages

Although the product is what I expected (it's a notebook), the packaging for delivery was done poorly, and the notebook arrived bent, enough so that I am not comfortable giving it as the gift it was intended to be. The quality of the picture and design is lovely, but again, because it arrived bent, it is rather skewed.

This journal came in within a week of ordering it and I was thrilled! I love roses so I love having this journal. The size is perfect. Small enough to throw in a bag. The printing is clear. The pages are nice and thick. The binding is sturdy. The printing is a little darker than the photo on screen but that is expected with printing. It looks luxurious to me. I love deep red roses.
