This was the center for a trivet made from special wood. My teenage son loved apples ~ his younger sister picked up a core and said, "I'm going to plant these seeds and grow an apple tree..." And she did! Many years later the tree had to be removed so I saved the trunk and some larger branches. At Christmas they each received a trivet made from the wood, plus a holiday centerpiece. I'm pleased, and so were my son and daughter. Actually, they were amazed ~ mostly that their Mom could do this... ;)
