Apollo 13 (11 avril 1970 - 17 avril 1970) is the third mission of the American Apollo space program to bring a crew to the moon. Astronauts Jim Lovell and Fred Haise were to land near the Fra Mauro geological formation , site of one of the largest asteroid impacts on the moon's surface, while Ken Mattingly was to remain in orbit. But NASA believed he was at risk of catching measles from another astronaut's illness, and Jack Swigertwas sent in his place. In addition, a serious accident, which could have been fatal for the crew, occurred during the transit between the Earth and the Moon and imposed the abandonment of the mission and the return to Earth.
