These are the American Suffrage movement colours of yellow, white, and purple not to be confused with the British colours of green, white, and purple. After decades of work and protest, the 19th Amendment passed in Congress but still needed 3/4 of the states to ratify it in order to be added to the Constitution. The stars were added to the standard flag as each of the 36 states needed for ratification of the bill passed it in their state houses. It took over 70 years of dedication and work for the 19th Amendment to pass but on Nov 2, 1920, 8 million women voted for the first time!
