Amazing Tree Abstracts Series 2 Throw Pillow

This is the second in a series of six amazing tree abstracts. Using camera motion and the camera's response to existing environmental forms and colours creates a vibrant, magical dreamy feeling. The models for this series are a group of trees not far from my place. It's early May and delicate new leaves are budding but still small. The tree branches still look gracefully bare as they reach up to the darkening sky. It's evening and the sun is setting behind the trees - you can see smudges of orange or gold colour, along with light grey blues and pale cream tones of the sky. In low light conditions the camera adds hues of magenta and cyan, blending dynamic blue-green and purplish tones into the work. There's no post-processing or other image manipulation except for minor cleanup and a touch of contrast. All effects occur due to artistic techniques employed during the creation phase, wide sweeping strokes, flowing colours and breathy blur caused by certain types of motion and angle of camera action. I'm using the camera as a painting tool, like a paintbrush, and the paint is the camera's interpretation of light. I was a painter for many years before turning to digital art and photography as expressive media, so my photo works often have painterly qualities which I enjoy producing and experimenting with, on purpose or by accident and random seed. Influences include the European Impressionist painters, German expressionist artists especially Franz Marc, English painter J.M.W. Turner, Canadian Emily Carr; the Group of Seven, especially Lawren Harris; the Cubists, Surrealists and plenty of others. I get inspiration from most forms of art, from the dawn of time to modern day, and from the ultimate artistry of Mother Nature herself. This series is a celebration of life and the beauty of nature through expressive energy, organic patterns, random manifestations of light and shadow. Elements of abstraction emphasize aspects of spirituality and mysticism, the fleeting, ever changing, vibrational nature of existence and its many components, but also of continuance as the energy moves out of the frame, while unifying structures such as the natural lines of the trees give a sense of grounding, with familiar patterns and lines that have existed in nature since the origins of time, universe and consciousness itself.
