Alphonse Mucha Gismonda poster. Lithograph poster from 1894. Generally considered one of the foundational works of the Art Nouveau movement, Alphonse Mucha’s Gismonda first appeared in Paris in 1895 promoting Victroien Sardou’s play starring French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The poster features the actress holding a palm leaf decked out in an elegant gold and white royal robe with exotic pink flowers in her red hair. The title of the play appears at the top of the poster and the theater appears at the bottom, both ornately decorated in the style that would typify much of Mucha’s commercial work. A great gift for fans of Mucha, art nouveau, and vintage theater posters.

Being a fan of Black Cats & history I learned about a cabaret during the Belle epoch (1870-1914) that featured a Black Cat advertisement poster. I felt the need to own a piece of this history for myself. The printing is excellent and legible.
