Alaska Postage Stamps Calendar
There are people in Alaska who want it to be an independent country. There are people in Alaska who believe it already is an independent country. So, here are a selection of postage stamps for an independent nation of Alaska. On the cover, a 3-nugget (the nugget being the name of Alaskan currency) postage stamp featuring a Muskox (Ovibos moschatus) cancelled at the Main Post Office in Anchorage. For January, an 8-Nugget stamp depicting a Beluga Whale (Delphinapterus leucas) carved from Woolly Mammoth ivory. For February, a 3-Nugget stamp depicting a Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) resting on the ice pack during the long polar night. The Northern Lights glow in the distance. For March, a 7-Nugget stamp depicting Walrus (Odobenus rosmarus) resting on an ice floe. For April, a 10-Nugget stamp depicting an Arctic Fox (Vulpes lagopus) on the ice pack on a very bright and cold day. For May, a 3-Nugget stamp depicting a Polar Bear Cub seeking reassurance from its mother. For June, a 10-Nugget stamp depicting a bull Caribou (Rangifer tarandus), aka Reindeer, superimposed on a Caribou fur background. For July, a 5-Nugget stamp depicting an Inuit hunter paddling his kayak on a dreary, grey day. For August, a 4-Nugget stamp depicting a pod of Orca, or Killer Whales (Orcinus orca) heading out to sea off the coast of Alaska. For September, a 5-Nugget stamp depicting a de Havilland DH3-C Otter float plane somewhere over Alaska. The aircraft has the colours and log of mythical Flying Moose Aviation based in Talkeetna. For October, an 8-Nugget stamp depicting a Kodiak Bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi). For November, a 3-Nugget stamp depicting a slightly stylized image of a moose silhouetted against the Northern Lights. For December, a 3-Nugget stamp with brown-toned fractal image suggesting a highly-stylized Inuit hunter, wearing traditional fur clothing, holding a harpoon with an ivory head. The image is superimposed on a background depicting the dark polar winter. On the back, a 3-Nugget stamp depicting an Eider Duck (Somateria mollissima) carved in soapstone.

Stellar quality and adorable art. Newfs doing what Newf do best, keep you amused! Great size and all the Canadian holidays included. Love the outlines on the pages with appropriate weather graphics, and with profits from this printed work going to Quebec Newfoundland Rescue, a registered charity helping Newfoundland dogs in need, even better. Very heavy stock and the quality is top notch. I like the spiral binding which keeps it flatter on the wall.
