This postcard features the Széchenyi Chain Bridge stretching across the Danube toward Pest, with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and St. Stephen’s Basilica in the cityscape. Completed in 1849 to the design of W. T. Clark, the suspension bridge became a powerful symbol of the growing connection between Buda and Pest before their 1873 unification. Nearby, the Academy’s Neo-Renaissance palace opened in 1865 during the same era of major civic transformation along the river.
