Abstract Blue Ka'aba Art Phone Case

This phone features my painting, "Of the Earth #4", which is a painting I made in 2010 upon my return from performing the spiritual pilgrimage of Umrah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The painting combines elements of Earth and Water; earth being that which makes up the Ka'aba (the black cube) structure which is the holiest structure for Muslims towards which they pray five times a day, and water referring to the eternal spring of water (also known as Zam ) that came in response to a prayer by Hagar, who Muslims believe to be the Mother of Prophet Ishmael. Earth and Water, then, are also what WE consist of, revealing our own sacred natures. The round pieces of earth surrounding the Ka'aba on the bottom half of the painting are taken from earth I've collected from my travels to various countries (Turkey, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Jamaica, Costa Rica, St. Kitts, Pakistan, to name a few). They recall our different colours and backgrounds, all stemming from the same Source. Though I encourage open interpretation of my paintings, I also want to add that the blue rectangular region underneath the Ka'aba pays homage to where the Zam area once used to be in the Masjid Al Haram; going down the stairs into this area to cover myself with Zam , and drink from it was one of my favourite acts of Umrah. It has now since been closed and Zam is available through fountains and coolers placed intermittently throughout the Masjid Al Haram (which is the Mosque enclosing the Ka'aba).
