Abandoned House Front Steps Queen Anne's Lace Postcard

This photo comes from an old abandoned house in Vieux Hull (Gatineau) Quebec, Canada. Progress is booming, and many old houses are being torn down. I take pictures of them, usually, I hope, before they turn into rubble. This house has been empty for a couple of years and has many intriguing designs created not only by builders and the people who lived here, but by the natural elements. Wood becomes warped and damaged by weather - here it's wind, rain, ice and snow, hot sun and the occasional hailstorm. Wild flowers grow where gardens used to be. These are Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota) flowers, late in the season. The plant is also known as wild carrot, bird's nest and bishop's lace, depending on area of origin. Queen Anne's Lace is a North American term. I like the juxtaposition of late-blooming flowers with their own natural design and the patterns, shapes and forms of the old house. Weathering and neglect have their effect as the front porch sags a little more each day. One day I will walk past this place, and it won't be there anymore. This is a great design for anyone interested in architecture of old houses, overgrown gardens, wildflowers, man made structures returning to nature, quaint vintage scenes, organic art and the passage of time. This house is an intriguing example of local working class architecture, which makes each building unique, but few buildings are built to last. Houses like this are a testament to the growth of the town. Vieux Hull or Hull (Gatineau) flourished due to the timber trade, especially white pine, as well as factories and industry such as the E.B.
