The only road trip I ever took was just a two and a half hour ride around Amish country with my roommate during our freshman year at a small college in Pennsylvania. While filling up at a gas station, this rather unsavory character strode up to our vehicle and asked if we could give him a ride to the next town. To my utter surprise, my roommate (a good-hearted gal but perhaps lacking in street smarts) agreed to do this. The fellow jumped quickly into the car before I could announce my objections. As it turned out, he didn’t want to get out of the car at the next town. Or the next town. He said he was hungry and asked us to stop at a burger place. While he waited in line I begged my roommate to drive off. she refused. He got back into the car with the smell of cheeseburgers and fries filling the air. Eventually we let the guy out 2 miles from campus and I heaved a sigh of relief. But that was the last time I ever agreed to take any more road trips with this friend! A bughouze.com original.
