A Scene on the Ice by Dutch painter Hendrick Avercamp in 1625. Avercamp was famous for his winter scene paintings especially of ice skaters. He was mute, lived in Amsterdam, and was one of the first landscape painters of the 17th-century Dutch school. A scene on the Ice is filled with many interesting details of Dutch life, for example, in addition to ice skaters two little boys can be seen playing a game of kolf which is similar to both modern day hockey and golf.
