Maru ni ichi no kakuji is a family crest that incorporates the character 'one', which is considered auspicious. The character 'one' is associated with being the first or number one. Many samurai families used this character in their crests. The 'kakuji' style involves designing characters into square shapes with uniform thickness and spacing, creating a balanced and beautiful appearance. This mug was exactly as described. I have purchased the stainless steel one before and the white is a nice change (stainless steel inside). I found the lavender purple a little light for my liking but that's my fault. Next time I'll choose a more grapey purple.
