A Greyhound In An Extensive Landscape by de Dreux Postcard

A lovely print of "A Greyhound in an Extensive Landscape" created by French painter Alfred de Dreux using the medium oil on canvas. Born Pierre-Alfred de Dreux (1810 – 1860), Alfred de Dreux was a French portrait and animal painter, best known for his scenes with horses. He was the only son of the successful French architect Pierre-Anne Dedreux (1788-1834). Alfred de Dreux began studying art in 1823 with Theodore Gericault on the advice of his uncle, the painter Pierre-Joseph Dedreux-Dorcy. He would later study with Leon Cogniet and had his first exhibition at the Salon in 1831. The following year, an equestrian portrait of the Duke of Orléans became his access to a position in the workshops of Eugène Isabey. Dreux had a successful career during which he had the opportunity of working for King Louis-Philippe as well as English aristocracy, and Emperor Napoleon III and his family.
