The "rude" buck in this photo is showing his black tongue, actually he is panting hard after chasing the ladies all day. In the pronghorn antelope world if you want a "date" you have to be able to out run her, it is a good way to ensure only the most healthy and hardy males breed. A pronghorn has to be tough to survive on the harsh south eastern Alberta, Canada prairies, the summers get very hot and the winters are long, snowy and with wind chill temperatures can drop below minus 50 degrees C.
