2013 Hollister Motorcycle Rally Postcard
Some people say that the American Biker tradition began in Hollister, California on the July 4th weekend of 1947. A few of the 4,000 bikers at the annual motorcycle rally rolled into town, got drunk, and began fighting. It got out of hand, causing the local authorities to call for additional help. The media spun the story into a menacing riot. Several years later, the story inspired the movie"The Wild One" starring Marlon Brando. Since 1997, Hollister has held an annual motorcycle rally, whether officially sanctioned by the city government or not, to commemorate the free spirit of bikers.
