1st Female Doctors India Rukmabai Anandi Joshi Postcard

These are the first women from India to earn medical degrees. Anandi Gopal Joshi studied at Women's Medical College in Philadelphia. Sadly she died at the age of 22 years old before she could actually start her medical practice. Rukhmabai studied in the UK at London School of Medicine for Women. She went on to have a very long and successful career in medicine in India. She led the way for generations of female medical professionals and worked to reform child marriage laws and support education for women.
