About This Design
1942 Canadian Quarter Postcard
The Canadian quarter used to be 80% silver until 1967, when--like the US in 1964--it changed the formulation to save money. During a transitional year, from 1967--68, the percentage dropped to just 50% silver, and then from 1968 until 1999 they were mostly made of nickel. (Nowadays they're mostly steel, with nickel plating.) This one has King George VI on the front, with the Latin inscription mentioning that, among his other royal titles, he is also Emperor of India. This inscription was changed in 1948, when India became an independent member of the British Commonwealth.
