1936 British penny keychain

The British bronze penny is one of my favourite coins. Any nation that mints such a substantial coin to serve as its *penny* is making a statement. Britain ruled. And by "ruled" I mean it sat on a throne and wore a crown and ruled the biggest empire the world has ever seen. The figure of Britannia has stood in for Britain, on and off, going back to Roman coins. She's had a variety of equipment over the years, though in modern times -- the last 200 years -- it's been the helmet, the shield and the trident. Often there's a ship or lighthouse behind her, but this version shows nothing but sea. Britannia was scrubbed from UK coinage in 2005. For the first time in centuries, there is no circulating British coin with her on it. UK currency was decimalised in 1971. This coin is pre-decimal currency and is no longer legal tender.
