In Kentucky, notices were tacked up in 1920 and the news was not good, depending on which side of the issue you were on ... all forms of alcohol prohibited. Kentucky voters added Prohibition to the state Constitution in the 1919 election, taking effect July 1, 1920. This empowered sheriffs and police officers to conduct raids. However, Police were not too enthusiastic about Prohibition (many officers were wet-leaning Catholics). Moonshine stills, speakeasys, and medicinal alcohol flourished as Kentuckians, although one of the first states to enact prohibition, ignored the new temperance Law of the Land
