1825 Vintage Wild Turkey Postcard
This vintage image “Wild Turkey“ was engraved from painting made by John James Audubon, an American naturalist and painter, in 1825 at Beechwoods Plantation, Feliciana Parish (now known as West Feliciana Parish) Louisiana. Audubon was the young man who in the early 1800s announced his intention to paint every bird in North America and who essentially ditched oil paint (the medium of the day) in favour of watercolors and pastel crayons and sometimes chalk, charcoal, pencil, and pen and ink. It should be noted that Audubon also painted using real birds as his subject - he developed a method in which he used wire and thread to hold dead birds in life-like positions while he drew them
