11 Claudius' 11th Loyal Legion - Roman Eagle T-Shirt

This Legion was a reconstitution of the 11th Legion that had been raised by Julius Caesar in 58 BC. After it had served throughout the Gallic Campaigns and Civil War with Pompey, the Legion had been disbanded in 45. In 42, Caesar's heir, Octavian, re-formed it. Under him, it fought against Caesar's assassins at the Battle of Philippi, later surpressed a rebellion at Perugia, and helped defeat the rebel pirate Sextus Pompeius. After the decisive Battle of Actium in 31, Octavian became Emperor Augustus, and the Legion was sent to the Balkans. It stayed there for a century, mostly along the Dalmatian coast at Burnum. In 42 AD, when the Governor of Dalmatia revolted against Emperor Claudius, the Legion was one that immediately put down the rebellion, which was when it was awarded its honorary title, 'Loyal and Faithful to Claudius'. In 70, it helped suppress the Batavian revolt. It fought on the eastern bank of the Rhine in 73-74, and in 83 against the Chatti under Domitian. At the start of the 2nd century, it fought in Trajan's Dacian invasion, commemorated with the famous Column of Trajan in Rome. In 114, it was sent to Moesia Inferior, near the delta of the Danube, where it stayed for centuries.
