This 19th century US Military History print features the head-and-shoulder portraits of 109 officers of the Union Army and the Union Navy who served in the American Civil War, along with the caption ‘The Defenders of the Union’ and ‘109 Commanders of the Union Army’ written underneath it. While the Union Army operated as the land force, the Union Navy navigated through the waterways to provide support to the army. This print was published circa 1862.
