【ひこねたちばな】近江彦根二十五萬石井伊家の定紋／井伊家遠江の井伊谷（いのや）に代々住んで、地名をもって井伊となったものである。出は藤原氏で藤原冬嗣（平安時代の左大臣）の六世孫共資（ともすけ）をもって始祖と伝える。共資に男子なく、女子ばかりであった。そこでうまい婿はと物色するうちに、井伊谷八幡社に、神童がいると聞きつけ、迎えたのが共保であった。井伊家の家紋は「井桁」と「橘」で知られる。その二つながら共保の出生にからまる伝説・・八幡の宮司が何げなく境内を歩いていると、井戸の中からなにやらピカピカするものがある。拾い上げると玉のような男の子であった。それで「井より出生するゆえ、井桁をもって旗章とする」ということになった。また「共保出生のとき、井のかたわらに橘一顆あり、このゆえに神主、橘をもって共保が産着の紋につけたり。これにより今にいたるまで、橘を衣類の紋とするといえり」・・だが、・・その真証「覚束なき事なり」（高橋賢一「大名家の家紋」）
