國芳 Ken Rabbit Epidemic Kuniyoshi Fine Art Mug

Ken Rabbit Epidemic is a satire of a speculative boom that occurred in the early Meiji Period. At that time normal rabbits were trading for 30 to 40 yen, but rare rabbits at several hundred yen higher. (€ 1 in 1874 was the equivalent of ¥ 4444 in October 2008.) Utagawa Kuniyoshi (ca. 1797 - April 14, 1861) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting and belonged to the Utagawa school. Japanese Asian colourful artistic humourous political satire with animals - a husband and wife pair of rabbits dressed in kimono having an animated discussion while a third rabbit plays the role of a geisha entertaining them with music.
