This flag, also known as the Union Jack or Union Flag, originated in 1801 with the union of Great Britain and Ireland. It consists of a combination of the flags of England, Scotland and Ireland, and has a 2:1 ratio (although a version with a 3:5 ratio is also in use by the British Army).
