"Tower of Pisa, Italy" postcard
The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy, was built from the 12 to the 14th century, in a time of prosperity of this Tuscan city not far from Florence. The tower is actually the bell tower of the cathedral, or campanile. The building we see today is a result of many attempts over the centuries to reduce the risk of collapse resulting from the inclination. Some of these attempts, however, only worsened the problem, but today the tower has stabilized. Built in Gothic and Romanesque styles, it is composed by its base, six arcaded floors and the belfry, reached by a narrow spiral stair.
