Oklahoma's Oil Giant - Cushing Field (B, Col, Txt) Posters
The panorama above shows Cimarron River bed operations in a portion of the Cushing Oil Field on December 2, 1915 (Product with a B/W photo and a colour photo + text explanation). The view is looking to the southwest from an overlook located in Creek County, Oklahoma. Cushing Field was discovered in 1912 by Tom Slick. By 1915, according to AAPG, Cushing Field was supplying 17% of the oil consumed in the United States. Cushing Field helped power the Allies during World War I. The panorama above was constructed from photographs taken by A.E. Fath. The repeat photograph below, taken on January 1, 2011, is near the same vantage point used by Fath in 1915. Today, a lone oil derrick is visible on the far bank near the bend in the river. The image above and the present-day panoramic image below were assembled by Geology Works. A.E. Fath’s original images are available from the U.S. Geological Survey Photographic Library.
