It is the main artistic genre of woodblock printing in Nihon. Ukiyo-e refers to a conception of an evanescent world, impermanent, fleeting beauty and a realm of entertainments (kabuki, courtesans, geisha) divorced from the responsibilities of the mundane, everyday world.
