The original poplar oil painting was done in the sixteenth-century during the Renaissance. The portrait depicts a woman whose facial expression is frequently described as enigmatic, with a slight smile, possibly indicating that the subject is hiding a secret. Arguably, it is the most famous and iconic painting in the world.
